COVID-19: Evidence-Based Clinical Guidance for a Rapidly-Evolving Situation

Accessible, reliable clinical consultation for healthcare providers on HIV and HCV management, prevention of bloodborne pathogen transmission, and substance use disorder treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We can provide clinical decision support on many aspects of HIV, HCV, and substance use disorder management and prevention as the healthcare environment continues to change in response to COVID-19.  Here are some areas our teams have provided consultation on:

  • COVID-19 prevention and treatment measures for people with HIV, including COVID-19 testing and antiretroviral medication management; diagnostic evaluation of overlapping syndromes (COVID-19, opportunistic infections, acute HIV, other conditions)
  • Best practices in PrEP and PEP care including HIV/STI/BBP testing and medication access
  • HCV and substance use disorder treatment evaluation and medication initiation/continuation amidst changes in healthcare operations and clinical capacity

Current NCCC operations during the pandemic
Due to recent changes in UCSF and campus operations, we have been temporarily routing calls to our voicemail system rather than into the NCCC’s call center offices. During normal business hours, one of our consultants will return your call as soon as possible: we kindly ask all callers to please leave clear messages with complete call-back information (NOTE: Perinatal HIV Hotline callers will be directly connected 24/7 to an answering service operator to reach our on-call consultant). Clinicians are also welcome to submit non-urgent consultation requests by returning to our homepage and selecting the service for the type of Warmline consultation desired. We will respond to these electronic requests within one business day.

Thank you for your understanding.
